Swimming

Lakes Entrance Primary School is in a coastal town.  The waters of the North Arm and Cunningham Arm almost lap the school boundaries and Lakes Entrance surf beach, Eastern Beach and Lake Bunga beach are in close proximity. The ability to swim and survive in the open water is an essential skill.

At LEPS all students from Prep - 6 participate in an intensive swimming program each year.  Water safety & familiarization, mobility in the water, stroke technique, survival and rescue are key aspects of the program run by trained YMCA instructors at the Lakes Aquadome.

Year 6 students also participate in specialized capsize and survival training in readiness for their Corringle Camp.

Years 3-6 participate in Open Water Survival and Safety days and the school maintains strong links with the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club with many students involved in the “Nippers” program. It is an expectation that every student is involved in our annual intensive swimming program.
